The best thing we can do is to support IV on their action items. The core is more informed about what would be best for the entire community.

I would only say "Hang On", or move on if you can. A lot of people in same situations, never want to discuss issues openly.
Patience does help, and maybe all the good is stored for future.
Most important is how you deal with stress associated with racial slurs, difference in treatment, and all the above issues. This has direct impact on health and many people in these conditions are victims of stress.
The h1b - GC situation is well known to everyone and they know you are indentured, some managers are called problem solvers (they pretend to hear ur voice, help you from their side and get the work done and try to ease pressure off you if they have an option), whereas some managers are called problem creators (they add additional pressure on you and make u miserable so that they get the work done). The reason companies support their American workers who involve in racial slurs is to avoid issues. It is easy to kick you out and blame you rather than catering to ur problem.

You mean to say sell US real estate for GC/citizenship? I don't see this going very far. I can see anti immigrants waiting for this one. Best is to lobby using aides of big corporations, developing relationship with lobbyists who already have connections, hiring lawyers, developing strong case, donations in election campaigns etc. All of this needs loads and loads of money. Are we ready to donate to IV and build strong lobbying group for our cause? That is the only way to change our current situation.

Thanks! That's helpful... from what you say, sounds like PD is still quite important. RD comes into the picture only after the PD becomes current. However, if a range of PD's are current, then they would sort those by RD and not by PD.
For eg, if they move the dates forward by a year, and Jan 04 and Jan 05 are both now current, a person with PD of Jan 05 but an earlier RD would still get processed prior to an application with PD Jan 04 and a later RD (according to the FIFO principle)...

It was possibility of good strong case by AILA that deterred USCIS to reverse the decision without a formal lawsuit. This is exactly what we need to further our cause. USCIS could care less about other petty tricks. They will only understand language of laws/court. For that we need congress to pass laws favoring us.
Our decision to send flowers was initiated around 2-3 July and the first of flowers were booked to be sent the same day.

We could take the suggestions of other IV members, may be sending a letter is not a bad idea with some extra postage stamps to help out the USPS since they also reduced some of their services due to funding issues. How about sending few $$ donations to the military fund any public fund to be used to spending.
We need to consolidate all these threads in to a single one and start working on it and quickly.

it depends on the individual hospital... your downside is only your wife getting fired... which might not really happen unless your wife supplies 100 A grade nurses to the directly competing hospital across the street... if she does that, anyway she wont care for the job.... :-) all the best... let us know how it goes...

thats the problem.... I cannot switch to another job as I am in the 7th year of H1B and I-140 approved but did not apply for I-485 yet. friends told me its risky to switch jobs now as I may be out of status.

what do you mean? Who are these rest who will go into a new merit-based system? Even if you count only the number of people here who have approved I-140, that alone is enough to delay us for a very long time even with the current quota (140K). Otherwise we would not have had retrogression.
It won't be so terrible for those who filed in 2006/07 to wait another 2-3 years. Plus poeple like me (PD sep 2004) will file in the new Point system reducing backlog for others.

This thread is to track the progress of S.1085 legislation.

It has ten members with 6 democrats who usually favor immigrants , including the chairman Sen. Charles Schumer, one of the sponsors of the bill. It will clear the committee, no doubt, but how fast?
IV should focus on this legislation getting passed. It has provisions for the unused visas in any category for the oversubscribed quota. This will definitely help reduce the backlog.
Lets focus on getting this bill passed. It is for the people who play by the rules and obey the laws of the country. Who pay taxes and contribute to the economy. Lets try to get this bill passed and capture all the VISAs lost due to the inefficiency of DoL and USCIS.
