I have contacted Sheela Murthy's Office and Rajiv Khanna's Office.

I wish they invested in R and D and innovation and products instead of services. Service industry is mainly governed by dealing with cost efficient labor. These companies reach out to IITs IIMs get the best and brightest and dump them into the service sector and start earning on them.
If they changed their business modal and started investing in products and Rand D, it may not give them quick money, but the results will be beneficial on the long run.

For example, stock brokers used to charge $200 and above for stock trades; however, electronic brokers came and made the industry efficient and hence can profit more by charging only $10 or even less. But this does not mean that the stock brokers are earning less. In fact they are earning more than before. However, their value additions come from faster settlement times and high volumes. This is easier to analyze. Now look at London or Hong Kong -- what services it provides and why is it booming?

Man, I-485 for Texas went back more than a month. It's so bad, they might as well not have published it, one would have slept better at night.
How do they come up with these dates? Weren't they supposed to process I-485 applications in the order they received them?
And how come the California Service Center has been doing so well this past few months, while all the other centers have been stationary or going back. CSC is at January 2007 now, fer cryin' out loud!

I closed my PPF account twice and never paid a single paisa. The second one I closed when I was in US and got the forms here through my old employer and Signed and send those form back to that employer , they filed it, Don'y know if they attached "NOC" but I got all of my money (close to INR80K) in 2 or 3 weeks at my home address in India.
I guess no one needs to pay money for to PPF in any state all you need tyo do is follow the proper instructions, It's as good as in any bank.

Contact attoreny ASAP why/how it has happened. As he represnts you, USCIS acts upon his request to withdraw. However, he has to make such requsest only upon your written communication to withdraw the application. Therefore, find out whose mistake it is (law firm or USCIS). If it is the law firm mistake ( if you have not requested your attorney to withdraw your 485), contact him to rectify his mistake. That means, he has to put his full effort to get the application back to USCIS. You can even sue them for a hefty amount for the damages they have done. If it is a USCIS mistake, MTR may work well, to get back the 485 in line. As the primary applicant already received the GC, it is tricky. So, contact another atttorney for second opinion and contact AILA, if required.

In my earlier post, I dint mean to say that all Kinkos are bad, its just the particular one near me was not good enough. The photos were as if they were taken with a yellow filter on their lenses.
Sears did a very good job instead.
You can just tell them that you need photos for passport. They are the same requirements
Think it this way, your photo might be scanned by their machine to be printed on visa/notice. If the photo is not of good quality it might get pixelated after they scan.
So be your own judge, think if you were in USCIS shoes and had to scan a photo and produce it on visa/stamp. They might also use some image recognition softwares for which they require exact speicifications.

Good point. You are absolutely right, help_please. S.774 is the original DREAM Act which did not distinguish between legals and illegals. But it never went anywhere. The DREAM Act that was part of CIR specifically made it applicable to only holders of Z visa. Please refer to S.1639 on the same site and look at Sec 612-620.
We do not know which version is being introduced now. The way things are going in Congress, I would not be very surprised if they make it applicable to only undocumented.

I do see your point about the unfairness of allowing the old PD. In that case, what do you say about the cross-chargeability provision ? I guess the percentage of people availing of that provision is small, but it does happen.

Maybe the percentage of such cases is low, and hence there're no protests from the people waiting. If EB3-World was current, he'd be green simply because his spouse was born in the "right" country.

My child is now over 21 years of age, however is OK with our present EB-3 filing. We all are on EAD. Now if I go for EB-2 route, my doubt is that my child who is already 21 plus years, will not be eligible to be beneficiary in this new EB-2 route...or is there any way?

if there is demand for some skill it will be given 50 times the salary of others.. if somebody wants to migrate he will find ways.. now being IT worker is best way to migrate to developed countries. He is trying to set expectation right but in wane.. people will go where they get best value for their time.

I don't think 15-20% drop in 5 years is speculative at least not in California. CNN Money actually predicts a 31% drop in prices in East Bay of SF Bay Area! This is probably the worst time to get into housing market, at least in CA.
But I agree with quality of life issue. Even the most luxurious apartment does not compare with a house. Having a backyard and a garage are the biggest and the best things that apartments do not have. Also, having your own house gives you a sense of belonging. Renting a house won't give you the same feeling. Also, I know more than one friend who used to rent a house but had to move out because the landlord decided to sell when the lease was over.
So apartment doesn't offer the same lifestyle and renting a home might make you move every few years involuntarily. Best thing to so for those in CA itching to live in a house would be to rent a house that the owner is very unlikely to attempt selling. Any ideas on how to determine what houses are actually just rental property and and not really targeted for sale?
I agree with some of your points. However each one of us is in a different situation and have different ways of dealing with situations. If you are happy with your current situation including renting, that's well and good for you.
However taking a generalized view of the entire US housing industry and expecting 15-20% drop in 5 years is highly speculative. Such speculation maybe true for some housing markets like California, Arizona, Florida and the East Coast. However its not true for the mid-west where prices have been more stable. Besides job loss can occur even if one is on a GC. Nothing is permanent in this country. You always need mobility and that's the reason you have several professionals living in one city and working in another. Its not the end of the world loosing your job one city. There are always alternatives like the one just described.
I strongly advocate looking at your current situation before thinking about buying a home. The lifestyle and quality of life experienced by living in a home is unmatched even by living in the most luxurious apartment. The security from owning a home comes from knowing your have your own place and mortgages payments you make help you in increasing your equity in the home which can be utilized in the long-run to start a business or investment in other things.

I filed on july 23rd got ead & AP but did not get FP. After reading this thread and seeing the patterns i think that if your application is processed by the center where it has to originally go then you get your FP quickly but in cases where your application went to original center and then that center sent to other centers for EAD and/or AP then their FP's is getting delayed, like my self.
I also have another problem. I changed address just after applying for I-485.I think FP is NOT dependent on PD's and or address change.
This is just my 2 cents.

Based on my receipt numbers and looking up on USCIS website, it appears my AOS application that was sent to NSC has been sent to California Center. I have not seen anybody's case being sent to CSC. Dunno how good or bad it is and whether it sppeds up/delays my EAD processing. Anybody had experience with CSC and got any of EAD/AP/GC approved from CSC.
