There was an instance when a pop singer from India(Daler Mehdi) was accused of smugling illegal immigrants disguised as musicians. Point is, if somebody is a celebrity, that does not make him/her un touchable?

I work on full time basis. have pending 485 and do have EAD and AP, per my attorney decided to get visa stamped on my passport so that do not have to renew AP and EAD every year. I do not intend to leave the employer neither does my employer has any intention of kicking me out.

For July 485 filing, can I send papers in Saturday June 30th ?
This is what I'm doing. I'm flying to Nebraska service center friday night. Will put my shelter in front on PO box and will remain there until Monday morning. Once the USCIS guy comes up to pick up the mails, I'm just going to hand deliver my paper before he even opens his mail box.

I doubt we can see a visa number increase until the CIR bus comes around again. It is anyones guess when that will be.
I think the only things that might stand a chance is visa recapture. If there are even 150-200K visas recaptured, this will tremendously improve retrogression for up to 2 years. Pressure is building on legislators from both employers and state gov't putting up arbitrary rules which are splitting communities. The enforcement approach taken by gov't is also giving pause for thought to some moderates on this issue. McCains ascension to republican nominee will serve to cool the temperature on this issue during the election season. Hopefully they can do something transitional in the interim which includes visa recapture.

Congress/ Sonia is seeing this as personal which shouldn't have been the case.

I haven't seen anything more laughable than this for quiet some time...BTW do you think by chanting "Green Card" 100 times a day will get you green card or Not talking about India will get it, should we stop talking to people about India here & stop going to India and stop making calls to India since we are focussing on Green Cards ? Have heard good things about Maple Intl. We filed on our own without any agencies. It's not terribly complicated, and certainly not the nightmare that getting a US permanent residence is with its 3-step process of LCA, I-140 petition for immigrant worker and I-485 AOS (or CP).
At times I wonder why they continue with this terribly complicated process in the U.S. - it clearly isn't working, but as long as it keeps the hordes of DoL and USCIS folks employed, I guess it serves its purpose.

Giving an interim GC while visa number is unavailable will have the effect of bypassing the entire GC quota system. How do you want the interim card to be different from the final thing? No way that anyone in Congress will allow for their laws to be overridden through USCIS rulemaking.
I just used the term Interim GC to convey the idea, it could be named anything. EAD is a also a partial GC, it gives you rights of a GC holder pending administrative processing of your application - to work with any employer. The interim GC (or whatever it should be called) may provide all rights of a GC holder, awaiting final count in the legal register of permanent residents (due to legal need of numeric limitations) and the final card, just like a temporary driver license you get immediately after the road test. The idea is that once this stage is passed, no further questions on employment, marriage certificates, etc. should be asked. It should reduce burden on USCIS too. They have to keep on checking again and again on validity of everything we write in our application.

My friend has an I-140 EB3 priority date oct 2005 approved and he had filed for 485 during july 2007.
He also has another approved LC under EB2 category and he has to file I-140 now.
In August 2008, the EB2 priority date becomes current for him since if he interfiles he would get oct 2005 on his new I-140.
Since he would be porting his EB3 PD to EB2 I-140, is it allowed that now in august he can file both I-140 & I-485 along with porting PD request.

Does USCIS still allow concurrent filing and in this scenario can he file concurrently.
What happens to his earlier 485, does he need to withdraw it or how does it work. He is still working on his h1b now.

You can renew your permanent resident card only if you lived in canada for atleast 2 years in 5 years. And to get the card, you need to get a guarantor signature who knows you for atleast 2 years e.g. a physician, attorney, etc

The counter argument to this statement is that when I was hired I was told that it would take 2-3 years to get the Green Card and then you can live in this country. I made certain investments, commitments in this country based on this fact. Now either I stay here as slave or loose on all those things that I did thinking that I will stay in this country forever or for next 10-15 yrs. Some of the problems that tied me to this country are :
1) Buying a house
2) Child education : Child cannot go back to home country and countinue education due to language of instruction.
3) Immovable Investments like 401K and not investing in my own country e.g. PF in India.
4) Making life insurances. I am too old to take a new life insurance as the premium will be too high and I cannot afford to pay my current life insurance as US as it would be difficult to them with my earnings in the home country.
And the list can go on and on. There are the things that habe tied me and I am no longer free to leave. If would have know earlier that the GC will take 10 years I would have not bought a house, left US before my kid started school, might have took a life insurance in home country etc. In fact same argument prevails that why were the dates made current last July. That send a wrong message and people made more investments.
Your above statement is true, but it doesn't apply to EB situation. A slave is not allowed to leave, you are allowed to leave time, at your free will. Its just that you chose not to leave. The correct description of the situation is - you are imposing slavery upon yourself and asking for remedy from the government. Isn't that correct? Here is what I want to understand.
EB2 ROW is CURRENT except INDIA AND CHINA. EB2 ROW will get 28.6% of 140000.
This means 40040. How they are going to divide these visa between INDIA and CHINA?
This is NOT SpillOver. I know there is 7% rule, but other countries are always Current.
And EB1 is CURRENT and considering Bad economy very few cases will be filed under EB1.
What will happen to those 40040 Visa? If those spillover to EB2 ROW, we may see a large quantity of Visa numbers for EB2.
Considering 50% of each EB1 and EB2 visas consumed by other than INDIA AND CHINA, still we should get aroud 40040 visas this year.If you furher divide 50% between INDIA and CHINA, both will get 20020, Which might be sufficient to cross 2005.
